[Teacher's Bio] Emily Thornton
In Emily’s career as a clinical social worker, she has spent many years doing nonprofit social justice work, partnering with people from a diverse variety of backgrounds, lived experiences, and identities. Currently, she is a psychotherapist and yoga teacher in a group practice where she leads movement classes and guided meditation. Emily found her way to yoga sixteen years ago while a college freshman in Oregon and fell deeply in love with the way that asana practice and meditation offered her the stillness that her writer-brain often struggled to find. Since then, she has continued to practice and study various styles of yoga, with a focus on Vinyasa and Ashtanga.
In 2016, she completed the 200-hour teacher training at the incomparable Yogaview Chicago and continues to study with her teachers there. She has completed several trauma-informed yoga trainings and is dedicated to making all classes feel safe, welcoming, and accessible for all who come to practice.
